There is an Ultimate Frisbee Camp beginning on July 23, 24, 25 from 7 to 10 a.m. at the city park. A tournament will be held on the 26th at noon at the west end of city park.
The ultimate frisbee activity will be open to all children ages 9 and up.
Mona will once again host their Pioneer Celebration this year with a Friday night supper from 6 to 8 p.m. at the city park.
Frank Riding, council member, has been organizing the festivities for several years and said that the senior appreciation banquet was a great success.
"This year we will be serving barbecue ribs and Lucinda's homemade pies," said Riding.
Tickets, which will be sold at city hall, are $5 for seniors, $10 for adults, and $5 for kids.
A movie, "The Lorax", will follow at city park.
"The theme for this year's celebration is 'Honor Our Freedom'," he said.
Saturday, July 26, there will be a talent show contest at the park beginning at 11:30 a.m. with prizes for each category. Sign ups for participants, between ages 1 and 102 plus, can be made at the city office.
There will be a 5K/Fun Run on Saturday with the 5K racers beginning at the park at 7 a.m. with a $15 entry fee to be paid prior to running. The Fun Run will be held at 8 a.m. with a $10 registration.
Early registration may be made at city hall or late registration can be made prior to the race.
"All proceeds will be donated to the Mona Veterans Memorial," said Riding.
The parade will line up at 9:30 a.m. at 300 South 100 East. The parade, at 10 a.m., will proceed down Main Street to 100 North.
Jonathan Jones, council member, is the contact person for the parade.
At 11 a.m. the DUP store will open with fresh garden produce, handmade crafts, homemade goodies and ice cream. The cabin will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with free wagon rides and tours.
"The snack shack will open at 11 a.m.," said Riding. "Proceeds will go to the Veterans Memorial."
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be inflatable rides, face painting and a photo booth. Wristbands can be purchased on the day of the celebration or at the city office prior to the day of the celebration.
At 11 a.m. there will be a Jr. Livestock Show. Those who wish to participate should contact Lisa Kay.
From 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be kids games and at 3 p.m. there will be the kids race with the mayor. At 4 p.m. will be the announcement of parade winners and the sheep show winners.
At 8:30 p.m., there will be a Western Dance with music provided by Jason Gibson and, following the fireworks, there will be a youth dance with music also provided by Jason Gibson.
At dark will be the fireworks display.
"We still have the best fireworks display," said Riding. "We have people come from many surrounding communities to enjoy it."
The fireworks, as usual, will be presented by Mona Fire Department.
He said that glow sticks and drinks will be served just prior to the display at the snack shack with these proceeds also going to the Veterans Memorial.
"We still need volunteers," said Riding. "Anyone wanting to help should call me."
