"The New Year's baby for 2011 arrived on schedule according to the parents, however the hospital staff begged to differ," said Heidi Kelso Marketing Director at Central Valley Medical Center. "Even though we always hope a baby is born on January 1, we have also learned that babies come when they are ready," Kelso quickly added.
New Year's day or not, the first baby of 2011 to be born in Juab County arrived on Monday, January 3, at 8:44 p.m. and weighed in at 8 pounds 3 ounces and was 21-inches long. The new baby girl does not have a name yet, but her proud parents are Claes Jonsson and Betty Reynolds of Santaquin.
"This is always a fun time to have a baby. The staff get excited about the contest and love to participate in anyway they can to make it a special event," noted Benson. The hospital donated a case of diapers, formula, wipes, lotion, and various other baby supplies, along with a $200 discount on the hospital bill.
Local businesses, which provided generous donations this year include: Home & Haven, Lillies-N-Lace, Nephi Floral, Nephi Rubber Products (NRP), Mid-State Consultants, Nebo Leavitt Insurance, Nephi Western Credit Union, Utah Community Credit Union, Far West Bank, Reed's Drive-In, J.C. Mikkelson's Restaurant, Lotsa Motsa/Movies Plus, Mt. Nebo Market, Salt Creek Cinemas, Red Cliffs Assisted Living Center, and Choice Do It Best Hardware Store.
