One plan that would add a summer-time entertainment which may be popular with all ages of county residents would be the presentation of an arena motocross event.
Chris Memmott and Robert Garrett, both members of the Ute Stampede Committee, told the Juab County Commission that they would like to see such an event added to the line-up.
"I think it could be a positive addition," said Memmott.
While members of the committee have been discussing the addition and have talked to some who participate in such events about what it would take to bring the motocross to the Juab County Fairground main arena, it would not be an event run by the Stampede Committee.
They have talked to Randy Painter, a Nephi businessman, who has an interest in such events and have learned from him, said Memmott.
Another individual they have talked to is Tina Mouritsen of Wild West Nationals, Western Power Sports, Motocross Series.
That group puts on a motocross event in the Utah communities of Price, Delta and Ogden.
They have also talked to Pro Tour, another motocross group. The AMA Pro Motocross Championship began in 1972.
With the Pro Tour Motocross events, each track has a unique blend of jumps, hills, corners and whoops, but all the races run under the same format: two thirty-minute-plus-two lap motos (races) per class, with the scores from each race combined to determine the overall winner.
"I think we could attract the Wild West to our arena," said Val Jones, commission chairman.
Garrett said the event would continue to promote the arena and would provide better use and more enjoyment for a wider group of people and would attract even more groups of fans to the area.
Attracting more tourists to the area means adding more sales tax dollars to the coffers and bringing more business to the communities of the county.
"Right now we would be looking at the first week of July, on the 2nd," said Memmott.
Of course, all of that depends on the continuing conversations with those who provide such events. A motocross arena event could be added to the line-up of summer events.
Memmott said having the motocross the first of July would leave plenty of time to prepare for the 77th Annual Ute Stampede Rodeo which is scheduled for July 14, 15, and 16, 2011.
"The ticket prices would be kept low enough (perhaps at the $10 figure) that local families could enjoy attending," said LuWayne Walker, commissioner. "We would also have family plans."
