Emma Lavern Jarrett Wilson Porter
12/13/1923 - 8/3/2015
Emma Lavern Jarrett Wilson Porter, our beloved mom, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Emma was born December 13, 1923 in Nephi, Utah, to Delta Jane Howell, and William Stanley Jarrett. She married Glen J. Wilson, in 1944, and together they had two children. They enjoyed 34 years together before Glen passed away in 1978. She later met and married Mervyn H. Porter, who later died in 1998.
Emma was blessed with many talents, all of which she had a passion for. She enjoyed painting, dancing, sewing, and writing poetry. She used these talents to bless her family and friends. She was a hard worker, and learned to become self reliant. She put family first, and loved every one of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known by them as, "Grandma Great". She enjoyed doing many things with them, including playing games, going camping, and even playing softball at age 84.
Emma loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and served in many different ways. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She enjoyed being a temple worker in the Manti Temple. She also served in many different callings in the LDS church. She was loving, sweet, caring, and kind. She was very compassionate and loved to give.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to friends, neighbors, and the staff at the Victorian House, for their outreach of love and kindness. Even with all her struggles in her final years, she always had a positive attitude and never complained. We will miss her dearly, but we are happy that she can finally be at peace with her Heavenly Father and loved ones who have passed on.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Steele, her grandchildren Rodney (Tricia), Randy (Amie), Rachelle (Craig), RaDona (Garrison), her great-grandchildren, her brothers, Clyde (Virginia), Glen (Sharleen), and her sister Arlene Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Glen Wilson, and son, Steve Wilson, and son-in-law, Dennis Steele.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 6, at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing an hour prior. Her funeral will be held at the LDS church at 222 South,100 East, in Nephi, Utah.
