"Roll out the red carpet" was this year's Miss Juab County Pageant theme and who stood out the most to be crowned queen? Emma Brooks, daughter of Stony and Stacy Brooks of Levan, took home the honors. Her attendants are Jenny Gibson, 1st attendant, daughter of Jason and Angi Gibson of Nephi/Eagle Mountain, and Alyssa Cowan, 2nd attendant, daughter of Chad and Stephanie Cowan of Nephi.
The night kicked off with modeling of their pageant theme wear. Brooks portrayed Doris Day, America's sweetheart of the 40s and 50s. Gibson portrayed Reba McIntire, queen of country music. Cowan portrayed Misty Copeland, principal ballet dancer. This portion made up 10% of the final score.
They then presented their talents. Brooks performed a violin solo, accompanied by Jen Christensen. Gibson performed a vocal solo entitled " A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" accompanied by Annalee Dinkel. Cowan performed a lyrical dance entitled "Not About Angels". The talent portion made up 30% of the final score.
The contestants modeled their evening dress which made up 10% of the final score. They then answered an onstage question, "What do you think makes an ordinary person a star?" Each contestant answered the same question. This also made up 10% of the final score.
Each contestant was able to meet with the judges earlier in the day for an interview. This portion made up 40% of the final score.
Others competing for the crown included Erika Stanley, KaDi McKeachnie, and Shaylee Stoneman.
Miss Juab County 2014 royalty acted as emcees for the evening. Shamri Wright, 2nd attendant, and Makelle Wright, 1st attendant, each performed a piano solo. Miss Juab County Jessika Kenison presented a slideshow of moments from her reign and gave her final walk.
The new queen received an $800 scholarship, 1st attendant received $600, and 2nd attendant received $500.
The new royalty will reign over this week's fair activities. The Juab County Fair, "It's Fairadise", will continue throughout the week with activities, events, exhibits, and culminating in the Demolition Derby on Saturday.
Come on out and enjoy the fair!
