Mona council members want the town curfew to be enforced and have requested that law enforcement administer the ordinance.

"We do have an ordinance in place," said Rick Schnurr, council member. "It has been an ordinance since Oct. 7, 1988."

Greg Gurney, Juab County Sheriff's deputy, said young people are our all hours of the night and are roaming around the community. Some of those young people are getting into trouble.

"He reported that some parents have been outraged when their young person is brought home by Deputy Gurney," said Schnurr.

The city ordinance makes it unlawful for any person under the age of 18 years of age to be upon any street, park, cemetery, business, or any public place after the hour of 10 p.m. on weekday nights.

On weekends, the ordinance sets the curfew at 11 p.m.

The only exceptions are if the young person is accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

"The violation of this ordinance is a misdemeanor," said Schnurr.

Greg Newton was the mayor who signed the ordinance, he said. It had been in effect since that time and, in fact, had gone into effect immediately upon the mayor's signature.

"Deputy Gurney will be given a copy of the ordinance to help him with his duties," said Schnurr.
