  • Mona City Pioneer Day celebration

24TH OF JULY ROYALTY • Mona will celebrate the 24th of July next Wednesday. The royalty are, left to right: King, Taylin Squire; Queen, Meadow Kay; Prince, Nathan Bassett; Princess, Mckinley Packer. They invite all of East Juab County to spend the day celebrating the 24th on the 20th at Mona this year.

Plans are nearly complete for the Pioneer celebration in Mona, to be held on a Saturday instead of on Wednesday, July 24, so more townspeople can attend .

Darlene Fowkes, council member over the festivities, made assignments several months ago so that each council member would have a responsibility for the celebration.

At Tuesday's meeting, all council members reported on how the items assigned to them were progressing.

"The only problem is that we won't have our city flag to fly in the celebration," said Rick Schnurr, council member. "Since 9-11, the flag manufacturers can't keep up with the orders for Old Glory, let alone manufacture other flags."

The flag should, however, be available for unveiling on the anniversary of incorporation of Mona which took place in August 1924.

In fact, for that occasion, small 4-inch by 6-inch souvenir flags have been ordered so that community residents may have them as a commemoration of the day.

A schedule of the day's events follows.
