Levan Town has been cleaning up their cemetery policies and procedures and approved them at town meeting last Wednesday.
They corrected mistakes, added some items that were in one section, but not in another, and clarified the meaning of certain positions.
“The term ‘superintendent’ shall refer to the Levan Town Council; the term ‘sexton’ shall refer to the caretaker and/or employees responsible for maintenance and care at the cemetery; the term ‘administrator’ shall refer those who are responsible for record or bookkeeping of the cemetery files; if employees not doing the duties of cemetery administrator it shall be the responsibility of the Levan Town clerk or recorder to assume those administrator duties,” said town clerk Heather Taylor.
She said that she and Stephanie Wood, employee, were going to sit at the cemetery on Memorial Day and have copies of the new policies and procedures for distribution.
She also clarified a question the council had had about cremations and where they could be placed. She said, according to the funeral home in Nephi, there can be a cremation on top of an existing grave, but opening and closing fees were the same. There can also be three cremations in one lot, or one burial and one cremation in one lot.
The council approved the cemetery policies and procedures with the new corrections and additions.
