A 41-year old male and 37-year old female are in the
hospital after crashing their car into a tree, Monday, Sept.
13, 2004.
The male driver was driving northbound on Main Street
when he crashed his car into the tree in front of Reed's
Drive-In at approximately 12:20 p.m. Monday afternoon. EMS
personnel responded to the scene. A doctor and RN with the
Intensive Care Unit were also on the scene to administer
help.
The impact of the crash pushed the dashboard into the
passenger seat trapping the female in the car. She had to be
extricated from the vehicle by rescue crews.
Investigating officer Justin Kimball said that the
accident was still under investigation and the cause of the
crash was still unknown. He said that the airbags did deploy
and probably saved the victims' lives. He said that it was
unknown if seatbelts were or were not worn at the time of
the accident.
The male driver, a local, received multiple broken
bones and is currently listed in stable condition. The
female passenger, also a local, is currently in the ICU at
Utah Valley Medical Center and is listed as critical but
stable.
The names of the victims are being withheld at this
time until family can be notified.
Detective Bruce Beal is helping Officer Kimball with
the investigation. Sergeant Metz, with the Utah Highway
Patrol, is assisting with a reconstruction of the accident.
