Interstate 15 just south of Levan was closed for several hours following a semi accident Thursday.
On the morning of July 15, at 2:35 a.m., a semi tractor and two tank trailers loaded with hot tar, for roadway construction, were traveling southbound on I-15 near mile marker 212.
"The tractor and trailer left the roadway to the right," said Hoby Metz, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. "The driver over corrected."
As the tractor and trailers came back onto the roadway, the rear trailer overturned.
"The tank ruptured and nearly all of the 4000 gallons of hot tar spilled onto the roadway blocking all southbound lanes," said Metz.
Metz said that the southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down for clean up.
"Great coordination existed between local agencies, the fire department, Steele Towing and UDOT," said Metz. "The coordination was valuable keeping this crash from getting worse, protecting the public, and insuring proper cleanup of the scene.
