  • Two-year-old survives I-15 fatal crash

A single-vehicle roll-over on I-15, Saturday morning, claimed the lives of three members of a California family. According to UHP troopers, a 2-year-old girl, Jennifer Santeliz was buckled into a child restraint in the back seat and survived the crash.

The family was in route to Salt Lake City in their Isuzu Rodeo when the accident occurred. The driver, Pedro Vega-Cervantes, apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The accident happened about 10 miles north of Nephi. Declared dead at the scene of the accident were Cervantes, 35; his girlfriend, Suzanna Mejia, 23; and Mejia's daughter Jaquelin Santeliz, 5.

According to Patrol Sgt. Wade Breur, the 2-year-old was taken to Central Valley Medical Center in serious condition. The girl will be cared for by an aunt who lives in Salt Lake City.
