January Nephi woman charged with 13 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with teens. Ranchers in Juab County’s West Desert are worried about danger that may be posed by drone aircraft the Army intends to fly in the region starting 2010. A former Snow College football player is facing charges for being part of a group of four who participated in a burglary ring. Former golf pro at Nephi’s Canyon Hills Golf Course entered a no contest plea to 10 charges of attempted misuse of public funds. Caitlin Emma McCoy, born January 2, became the New Year’s baby at CVMC. Parents are James and Annie McCoy of Nephi. The county needs to make certain that small subdivisions, those with fewer than 15 homes or less than 25 people, plan for high quality water systems so that, in the future, they can be plugged into municipal systems that meet state standards. The UNEV Petroleum Pipeline will travel through Juan County en route from North Salt Lake City to Clark County in Nevada. The 400-mile, buried pipeline will be 12-inch welded steel. February David Leavitt, owner of Pine Hollow Real Estate, met with county commissioners to explain his plans for developing the property and to address the question of a road that is disputed for abandonment. Lorenzo Jenson, Cody Keisel and Jordan Bainter named state champions in their categories. The community needs for the Nephi Public Library are based on a local community survey. A long range plan will continue to meet the needs of patrons. Mona City is asked to help pay for library services in which Nephi residents’ taxes pay for the library. St. Croix Seismic LLC, geophysical consultants met with commissioners seeking surface permitting to gain access onto an area near Levan. Burglaries in the southwest part of Nephi involved Remington safes. The safes pop open when pushed over on their sides. Lady Wasps placed 6th at state basketball. March Commissioners received only one proposal for the construction of new bleachers at the fairgrounds arena. Series of burglaries, including an attempted burglary at Juab High School, resulted in the suspect’s plea of guilty to each of nine third degree felony charges. Local mother, who pleaded guilty to 11 felony counts of unlawful sexual conduct involving five boys aged 16-17, will be taken to the Utah State Prison for a 90-day diagnostic evaluation. JHS Speech and Debate team competed in the Region 14 Forensics Tournament and brought home the first place trophy. Construction of a new fire station in Levan was put on temporary hold to allow for public input. There will be no new subdivisions approved in Mona for up to six months or until decisions are made about the new wastewater collection system currently being studied. Former golf pro sentenced to serve 60 days in Juab County Jail and repay Nephi City $20,000. 2008 Miss Nephi Aubrey Ballow, Attendants were Amy Johnson, Mekel Adair and Kelsi Andersen. Veda Parkin and Velda Hansen were honored with the Woman of Achievement Award. The expected 40,000 Easter visitors at Little Sahara Sand Dunes did not materialize. April Juab School Board looks at ways to enhance music and arts programs in the district. Nephi City asked the county to agree to let the city go forward with plans to bond on behalf of FiberTek. Industrial revenue bonds are a way to encourage relocations and expansions of companies that provide good jobs and expand economic opportunities for residents and the community. Once Levan Town Irrigation has their new pressurized system up and running, Levan Town will not allow any cross connections with the public drinking water system. Over the past several years, Nephi City has participated with the UDOT, Union Pacific Railroad and Juab County to evaluate the railroad crossings in the community and put together an improvement plan. The Juab School Board approved a bond resolution confirming the sale and authorization of issuance of $7,500,000 General Obligations School Buildings Bond. May A second company has asked Juab County Commissioners for approval to conduct oil and gas exploration in the area near Yuba Lake. House Bill 349 will empower parents to choose their child’s public school. Previous open enrollment laws gave parents public school choice but at the discretion of school administrators. Barnes Bullets broke ground for its new manufacturing facility in Mona. Gov. Huntsman signed a Ceremonial Water Right Bill in Nephi City Council Chambers. He was not certain it could be successful. Similar proposals had been unsuccessful in the recent past. Boys’ track took 1st at Region. Girls’ track placed 2nd. Boys’ track is State 2A Champions. Girls’ finished 4th at State. State legislature appropriated $25,000 for construction of the Juab County Veteran’s Memorial. There is a temporary land use ordinance in Juab County for no further applications for gravel pits. Nephi woman sentenced to nine months in the Juab County Jail for having sexual relations with at least eight teenage boys. Juab School District is now required to have either a girls’ golf team or not have a boys’ team. Gas prices have reached and exceeded the $4.00 mark. The Forest Service had closed the road to Bear Canyon for bridge repair and Juab County had been working on the road. It was completed in time for the summer use. Nephi Lions Club sold keepsake medals to help raise funds for the Veteran’s Memorial. Justin Anderson won the state title at the Heber State Rodeo Finals in bull riding.
