Juab High School presents Music Theatre International's musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, November 17, 18, 19, and 21 in the Juab Junior High Auditorium. Performances start at 7:00 pm and the cost is Adults $5.00/Students $4.00.
Thoroughly Modern Millie was a winner of six Tony Awards on Broadway in 2002, including Best Musical. It is based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and takes you back to the Jazz Age of New York City, when "moderns" were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce, and rewriting the rules of love.
Set in New York City in 1922, Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount (Marissa Richardson) from Kansas, who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel, Mrs. Meres (Garland Munn), kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East, her wealthy boss, Mr. Trevor Graydon (Zack Peters), is slow in proposing marriage, and the man she falls in love with, Jimmy Smith (Brandon McKeanchnie) doesn't have a dime to his name… or so he tells her.
Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon lady of a villainess that audiences love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is an evening of merriment. From explosive taps numbers to a "Fred and Ginger" styled routine on a window ledge, this is a fun show for both audiences and performers.
