The Nephi City Police Department assisted with locating and arresting a homicide suspect out of Salt Lake City.
At 3 a.m. on November 16, said Sergeant John D. Shepherd, Nephi City Police Department Information Officer, Nephi City Police Officer Clint Bowles was notified by the Juab County Sheriff's Office about a homicide suspect possibly passing through Juab County southbound on Interstate 15.
The suspect, Quincy Lawson, was involved in a shooting at a concert in Salt Lake City a few hours before.
"He allegedly was in a fight at the concert and is accused of firing a gun multiple times killing a 24-year-old adult male," said Shepherd.
"Officer Bowles was given the suspect's information and a possible vehicle description," said Shepherd. "Shortly after the dispatched information was received, Officer Bowles located a vehicle matching the description southbound on Interstate 15 near Mile Marker 222."
With the assistance of the Utah Highway Patrol and the Juab County Sheriff's Office, a felony stop was initiated on the driver who was confirmed to be the homicide suspect, Quincy Lawson.
"He was safely taken into custody and transported to the Juab County Jail where he was held until the Salt Lake City Police Homicide Detectives transported him back to Salt Lake City," said Shepherd.
"Officer Bowles showed true professionalism in the incident. Because of his awareness and proactive police work the homicide suspect was taken off the streets and he was placed in custody before he could harm anyone else," he said.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. during a concert at a Salt Lake event center located at 1444 west 700 south.
Sunday afternoon, law enforcement officers in Juab County arrested 20-year-old Quincy Lawson for the Saturday night murder of 24-year-old Bradley Hancock. Police said it began at a hardcore punk concert at The Core event center in Salt Lake City.
Shepherd said an altercation between Lawson and Hancock started inside the concert venue, but it became fatal when the men took the fight outside.
"It then went to the outside into the parking lot area, and that's when Hancock was shot by Quincy Lawson," said Sgt. Robin Heiden of the Salt Lake City Police Department. "Lawson actually brandished a firearm and fired several times."
Police said Lawson fled after the shooting. Hancock was pronounced dead at the scene, and another 24-year-old man struck by a bullet in the foot was treated for minor injuries. Investigators began gathering information from those inside and out of the concert.
"Homicide detectives responded to the scene last night, and they worked some leads; they had a lot of witnesses to the incident," Heiden said.
Detectives worked through the night and by Sunday morning were able to name and locate their suspect.
Police said Lawson is from Magna. The 20 year old has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and faces a charge of first-degree criminal homicide. Police said Hancock was from West Point, was a father and was involved in the hardcore music scene.
