It was a short meeting for the Levan Town Council on
Oct. 11. Issues discussed included an update on the animal
control building and the need for a microphone in the
council chambers.
Brian Ercanbrack, council member, updated the
council on the progress of the animal control building. He
said he had some dimensions in mind, and asked if the next
step would be to advertise for bidders.
Ercanbrack said that he thought an 8' x 30' building
would suffice with a single sloping roof. Mayor Bob Shepherd
said he felt the roof should be all the same heighth instead
of sloping from 8' to 6'. Ercanbrack felt a sloping roof
would be cheaper.
Ercanbrack said he had looked at other buildings that
had 5' runs inside for the dogs. He said six runs would be
plenty. The council discussed different ways of shielding
the dogs from one another, either by a steel sheet or
plywood.
The council discussed what type of runs the shelter
would have. Shepherd said that Joe Cummings, a Levan
resident, had some really nice dog runs and suggested the
council take a look at them. He thought that putting in an
already built unit would be easier than installing custom
runs.
The project is progressing, and the council is looking
forward to taking care of the dog problems in Levan to make
it safer for residents.
Mayor Shepherd said that there is a need for a
microphone to be placed in the council chambers so that
meetings can be better heard over the cable channel.
"It would have been really nice to have had one at the
Meet the Candidate night," said Shepherd.
He said that he didn't think it would be expensive,
and he thought it should be able to plug right into the
camera.
He said that it was really hard to hear the meetings
through the camera's microphone.
