A 29-year-old Taylorsville man drowned in Yuba Reservoir Saturday, August 25.
Archie Brock was identified as the victim of the drowning, said Juab County Sheriff Alden Orme.
"The accident occurred on the section of the reservoir located in Sanpete County," Orme said.
Sheriff Brian Nielsen said that Sanpete County dispatch received a report of the drowning at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Search and rescue volunteers from Juab, Sanpete and Sevier counties helped in the search for Brock's body.
Officials from the Gunnison Police Department and Utah State Parks also responded to help with the search.
"We had members of our dive team on the scene to help locate the victim," said Orme.
Juab Sheriff's Office also sent members of the search and rescue team and deputies to assist, he said.
According to witnesses, Brock was in the water, called for help, then went underwater and did not resurface, said Sanpete County Sheriff Brian Nielson.
"Witnesses told Sheriff's deputies that Brock had shouted for help before disappearing under the surface of the lake about 3:30 p.m," said Nielson.
When he did not resurface, the family called for help and started trying to locate him themselves.
"Family members dived in, but were unsuccessful in locating him," said Nielson.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene after the 911 call, he said.
Brock's body was lcoated about five hours after he had disappeared below the surface at approximately 8:45 p.m.
Nielsen said Brock was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nielson expressed appreciation to all of the responding agencies for their assistance.
