Irene and Golden Mangelson

Golden and Irene Mangelson are life-long residents of Levan. They were both born in Levan. Golden was born on August 9, 1926 and Irene was born on November 17, 1926. They attended grade school in Levan and graduated from Juab High School. Golden was drafted into the US Army in February 1945, a few months before high school graduation. Irene waited for him and they were married on December 11, 1946. This year marks their 70th Wedding Anniversary.
While in the army, Golden served in a field artillery unit traveling to the Philippine Islands, and then onto Japan after the war. In Japan he disposed of Japanese implements of war. He also served as group leader of the LDS servicemen in the area. He has been a member of American Legion Post 24 since his service in WWII. Golden has taken many opportunities to serve the people of Levan and surrounding communities. He has served as a Levan Town Council member, Mayor, Juab County Commissioner, on the Six-County Board of Directors, member of the Governor's Advisory Council, and was a founding member of Utah Municipal Power Agency to name a few. Along with farming, Golden has spent the majority of his life as an engineering technician and has assisted in the design of most of the agricultural irrigation projects in Juab County. As an employee of Nephi City, he led the effort to bring natural gas to Juab County.
Irene is a dedicated housewife. She has opened her home to numerous young men as they worked on the farm and welcomed two Native American girls while they attended school. Her organizational skills have helped her to accomplish her goals. She takes pride in her home and yard. Irene is an expert quilter and has quilted more than one hundred temple quilts. She has made quilts and crocheted afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loves it when her family comes to visit. Irene is an avid BYU sports fan and hates to miss a football or basketball game.
Both Golden and Irene have dedicated their lives to church service and have held numerous positions in the ward and stake. They served in the Manti Temple and as area missionaries. They are proud parents of five children, twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
