The Grand Marshals for the 2011 Mona Pioneer Days are Don and Elizabeth (Beth) Yates. Don and Beth are proud to call Mona their life-long home. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple sixty two years ago. They are the parents of eight children, forty-two grandchildren and seventy great-grandchildren. They consider Mona the most perfect place to raise a family.
Beth loves music. She was a member of a Mona quartet which enjoyed singing at numerous church and community events throughout the years. She taught piano lessons and 4-H. When she was President of the PTA they gathered enough funds from members of the community to black top the school grounds so their children would no longer have to play in the dirt. Beth was Captain of the DUP and has had many church callings in which she enjoyed serving.
Many people from this area might remember Don as a bus driver and transportation supervisor for the Juab School District, but he also worked for Kieser Steel, Geneva Steel and he was a railroad engineer at the Tooele Army Depot. While he worked at these jobs he also successfully operated their family farm. Don is and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he has served in many callings. He was a Counselor and President of the third quorum of Elders in Nephi for nine years, High Council member for nine years, High Priest group counselor and group leader.
Don and Beth love Mona for its kind people, rural setting, and its natural beauty. They feel that living at the foot of Mt. Nebo is their piece of heaven on earth.
