Jerry Shepherd, a hometown cowboy from Nephi, won first place in the Bull Riding event at the 75th annual Ute Stampede.
Shepherd earned a score of 89.0 in the scored event to win a purse of $1,633.33.
The Ute Stampede paid out $36,342.25 in prize money at the conclusion of the three-day rodeo to participants in seven events.
Also in the Bull Riding event: Dustin Tibbits, Pahrump, and Wesley Silcox, Santaquin, split second/third for winnings each of $1,064.14; Jackson Stoney, Cedar City, placed fourth for a prize of $593.94; Jacob Marshall, Huntington, placed fifth, and won $346.46; and Michael Serr, Taylorsville, was sixth and won $247.47.
Saddle Bronc riding results Joe Heguy, Elko, won first place in the event with a score of 82.0 for a prize of $1,445.23; Wayne Kogianes, Provo, took second place spot with a score of 80.0 for a prize of $1,094.87; Bradee Hughes, Veyo, Blake Larsen, Park Valley, and Wyatt Smith, Rexburg, ID, split third,fourth, fifth place with a score of 79.0 each for a prize of $540.14 each; and Hadley Hunting, Warren, had a score of 78.0 for a prize of $218.97.
There were two goes in the Bareback Riding event with rider Trent Coates, Spring Creek, NV, taking first with an aggregate result of 154.0/2 for a prize of $457.27; second, Tim Rydalch, Stockton, with an aggregate of 145.0/2 for a prize of $342.95; third, Dallas Finlinson, Fool Creek, with an aggregate of 60.0/1 for a prize of $228.63; and fourth, Dalon Hulsey, Luna, NM, with a score of 48.0/1 for a prize of $114.32.
Tie Down Roping: first went to Bradley Bynum, Sterling City, TX, with a time of 8.4 seconds for a prize of $1,542.80; second, Jake Hannum, Ogden, with a time of 8.5 and a prize of $1,276.80; third, Casey Wilson, Benson, AZ, 8.9, $1,010.80; fourth, Sterling Smith, Stephenville, TX, 9.1, $744.80; fifth, Justin Truman, Huntington, 9.8, $78.80; and sixth, Jared Arave, Blackfoot, ID, $266.
Team Roping, first place with a time of 6.1 seconds, Seth Gurney, Lost Creek, and KC Curtis, Monroe, for a prize of $1,122.66 each; 6.4 seconds, Brian Winn, Annabella, and Brian Roundy, Richfield, for a prize of $929.10 each; third, Jesse Sheffield, Austin, CO, and Wes Miller, Big Piney, WY, for a prize of $735.54 each; fourth, 7.2 seconds, Chase Michael Sullivan, Cammeron Valley, and Coby Drake, Enterprise, for a prize of $541.98 each; fifth/sixth split, 7.4 seconds, Steve Young, Goshen, and Levi Piquet, Harrisville, Shadrach Field, Roosevelt, and Zane Dansie, Herriman, for a prize of $270.99 each.
Barrel Racing: first place, with a time of 17.70, Julie Herman, Bluffdale, for a prize of $1,167.07; second, 17.73, Amber Berry, Lincoln, TX, for $1,000.35; third, 17.76, Sierra Dawn Thomas, Roy, for a prize of $833.62; fourth, 17.79, Jody Stark, South Weber, for a prize of $722.47; fifth, 17.81, Terri Wood Gates, West Jordan, for $555.75; sixth/seventh split, 17.87, Sue Smith, Blackfoot, ID, and Kelli Tolbert, Hinckley, $389.02 each; eighth/ninth split, 17.89, Shana Gibson, Ogden, and Nancy Hunter, Neola, $55.57 each; and tenth place split, 17.91, Norma Wood, West Jordan, and Shari Amiotte, Ft. Pierre, SD, for $55.57 each.
Per participant, Bull Riders and Saddle Bronc riders paid a $60 entry fee, Bareback Riders paid an $80 entry fee, Steer Wrestlers and Tie Down Ropers paid $75, Team Ropers paid $85 a team and Barrel Racers paid $70 in entry fees.
