Nephi is the owner of a bit more property, to be used in the public’s behalf, at some future date.
“The city has, in the past, been in negotiations with Joan and Randy Greenhalgh for property owned by them,” said Randy McKnight, city administrator.
“We have worked out a purchase agreement with Joan and Randy Greenhalgh,” he said.
McKnight said the purchase agreement had now been finalized and the property had, as of 1 p.m. Tuesday, been deeded to the city for a purchase price of $29,000 per acre for 65.61 acres.
The property is located on the south west in Nephi in the fields area of the community. The property was once used for a dairy operation.
“The purchase price does include irrigation water,” said McKnight.
No specific use by the city was listed for the property but Mark Jones, mayor, said it would be put to use in the future.
“We are considering future opportunities for the property,” said Jones.
In the future, several projects still on the drawing boards for the city and little more than items of consideration at this point will need property, one of those being the construction of an electric substation.
