The empty field at approximately 1300 South and Main Street was officially turned into a construction site on July 2. Members of the Juab School District Board of Education, students and parents, faculty, and members of the architectural and construction teams were on hand to break ground at the site.
Superintendent Kirk Wright welcomed those in attendance at the ceremony. Remarks were made by Juab School District BOE President Delanie Hathaway who thanked members of the community for their support of this project.
Ross Wentworth of Naylor, Wentworth and Lund Architects talked about the process of designing the school and thanked his team for all their hard work.
Chris Houghton of Westland Construction Company introduced his construction team and especially Kevin Squire, superintendent of the project, who just happens to be from Mona.
The school is approximately 73,000 square feet on instructional and activity space with 31 classrooms, numerous breakout rooms for individual and small group instruction, a large extensive library with Kiva Leveled Library, 2 computer labs, 2 small multipurpose rooms, an oversized multipurpose area designed for community recreation.
Wentworth said this will be a “green” project consisting of heating and cooling through an economical geothermal system.
The project is estimated to cost $12.4 million dollars and should be completed by the Fall of 2008.
