Juab County has a Western Week!
Juab County Commissioners agreed to designate July 8 through July 14 as Western Week in Juab County.
“In conjunction with Western Week, the commission encourages Juab County citizens to don their western clothing all week long and participate in the Ute Stampede celebration events held throughout the week,” reads part of the adopted proclamation.
“Join us in celebrating our western heritage during Western Week 2007.”
Chris Memmott, Ute Stampede Committee president, asked the commission to adopt the proclamation when he attended county commission meeting on Monday.
In keeping with a tradition, the former posse will be on-hand to direct traffic at the Ute Stampede again this year, said Memmott.
“We do have the sheriff’s support,” said Memmott.
The celebration of the area’s western heritage should begin at the start of the week, said Val Jones, commission chairman.
“We would encourage all of our residents celebrating the week by wearing western clothing,” said Jones.
In fact, he suggested the whole community break out their western boots and hats to go with the cowboy shirts and jeans.
