A general forest products permit will be available for fuel wood for residents of Juab County.
Personal-use firewood permits are available on two districts on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
Juab County Commissioners had requested that firewood permits also be available for sale in Juab County rather than just at the Spanish Fork Forest Service office.
"At your request," said George Garcia, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Ranger, "we will work out a time to have our receptionist come to the county building to sell permits."
Garcia said he thought it would be a good idea to have the receptionist come to the county on the day of commission meeting and set up a place to sell the permits in the hallway.
"The meeting that would be best would be the one held at 3 p.m." said Garcia.
The receptionist could come once a month, on that day.
"I think it would be worth your time to be here," said Val Jones, commission chairman.
Firewood permits are $7.50 a cord, with a four cord minimum.
A map of authorized cutting areas will be issued with the permit. A cord is the amount of tightly piled wood in a stack 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by 8 feet long.
The funds generated by firewood permit sales go directly into road maintenance and slash disposal funds. Slash are the pieces left after cutting firewood. US Forest Service fire crews either chip or burn slash in the spring or fall to prevent it from becoming a summertime fire hazard.
The permit allows firewood cutters to remove downed timber or to cut standing dead trees under most conditions. Firewood cutters are urged to use caution when driving and cutting in the forest, as both are potentially dangerous activities.
"We will work out the schedule and will then advertise," said Garcia.
