A Levan woman was severely burned in an electrical power accident on Wednesday, June 16, at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Kelli Aagard, 43, of Levan, was injured in the electric shock incident which occurred in a field where horses were also located.
"On June 16, the Juab County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call regarding a female who had received a severe electric shock in a field near Levan," said Brent Pulver, Juab County Deputy Sheriff.
The field was located in the southwest area of Levan.
Pulver said that Levan ambulance and Juab County Deputies responded to the scene following the 911 call.
Aagard was transported to Central Valley Medical Center by ambulance. From there, she was flown to the University of Utah Medical Center for further treatment.
"Electrical injuries consist of four main types: electrocution (fatal), electric shock, burns, and falls caused as a result of contact with electrical energy," according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention under the topic of electrical safety on their website.
"While at the scene, deputies observed a high voltage power line that was hanging about five-feet from the ground," said Pulver. "The power line and insulator had broken away from the power pole."
He said that, near the power line, were two horses that appeared to have been electrocuted and were dead.
"Kelli Aagard received severe burns on her head and feet," Pulver said.
At press time, Aagard was reported to be recovering from her injuries and was reported to be healing.
Pulver said that the Juab County Sheriff's Office was still investigating the incident.
"The Juab County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the quick response of the Levan Ambulance in this serious incident," he said.
