HOSPITAL EXPANSION • Larry Allred, Construction Site Supervisor; John Gledhill, Chief Operating Officer; and Randy Allinson, RN, Director of Patient Care Services held a small ground breaking ceremony last week to officially herald the expansion of Nephi's Central Valley Medical Center. The expansion will provide new operating suites for Orthopedic surgery and will expand the hospital's operating rooms to 4 from the current 2. The project is due to be completed in late 2010.
Central Valley Medical Center broke ground recently on an expansion project that will double the operating room capacity and improve the central supply and sterilization areas. Also included in the project is a larger recovery and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
Hospital trustees along with administration are excited about the project, which promises enhanced surgical services. The project has been in the planning stages for sometime, but finally got off the table last week with the breaking of ground on Thursday.
According to John Gledhill, COO, The expansion project is necessary for two reasons: First, Central Valley Medical Center has been successful in recruiting an Orthopedic Surgeon to practice fulltime in Nephi. Second, the current operating room space is already utilized near its capacity by the hospital's existing family practice physicians, general surgeon, OB/GYN, and five other specialists.
Gledhill further noted that larger operating rooms are essential for orthopedic surgeons due to the size and nature of the surgical equipment involved.
The new operating suites will help the hospital meet its growing demand for surgical services by expanding the hospital's OR capacity from 2 to 4 rooms. The new operating rooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
The project represents a milestone for Central Valley Medical Center. We have always dreamed of offering orthopedic services, but knew there would be many obstacles to overcome in order for that dream to become reality, said Randy Allinson, RN, Director of Patient Care Services.
This project is a demonstration of the commitment we have to our community to provide the highest quality of care, said Mark Stoddard, President of Central Valley Medical Center.
The project is under the direction of Layton Construction, and is expected to be completed in late 2010.
