Jay L. Woodard
1935-2010


Jay Lewis Woodard, age 75, passed away June 10, 2010 in Provo, Utah.
He was born January 22, 1935 in Goshen, Utah, to Jediah Earl and Meda Lewis Woodard. He married Neva Renee Jackson August 18, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple.
He worked with his parents on the family ranch, where he learned to fish and hunt. In 1953 he attended BYU where he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He graduated in 1958, and returned to get his teaching certificate in 1960. While at BYU he met his wife, Renee. He taught at Carbon High School in Price for four years and then moved to Nephi where he taught at Juab High School for 32 years. He was very involved in both the Utah and National Science Teachers Associations. He enjoyed his students and dedicated many hours to helping them succeed. He especially enjoyed taking students on field trips to experience the archeology and geology of Utah. In addition to teaching he continued to manage the family ranch in Goshen during the summer months, where he and his kids hauled hay, fixed fence, and worked with the horses and cattle. He loved digging ditches in preparation of irrigation.
Survived by his wife, Neva Renee Jackson Woodard; children, Jon Scott (Jennifer Rae) Woodard, Jonna Woodard, Julie (David M.) Kaufman, Jed Erich (Arminta Jonee) Woodard; 8 grandchildren, Nicole Lauren Woodard, Spencer Rhodes Woodard, Rachelle Rae Woodard, Amy Elizabeth Kaufman, Douglas Alan Kaufman, Eric David Kaufman, Alec Munro Woodard, and Aidan Riley Woodard. Preceded in death by his daughter, Jaleen Woodard.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, in the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 N. 400 E. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North Nephi and at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery.
