Mona City Council approved the tentative budget for 2005. They were supposed to have it done by the first meeting in May. They will approve the final budget at the June 22 meeting.

Everd Squire, treasurer, reported on the tentative budget. Total revenues for the next year are approximately $261,600, an increase of approximately $22,000 over the 2004 estimate.

Squire said the city had to appropriate funds to help balance the budget. The funds are some that the city already has in savings. The council will need about $18,000 to do this.

He asked the individual departments to look at the expenditures pages and think of what they wanted to do so he could work it into the budget.

Squire said that the First Responders were budgeted $4,000 for 2005, but that he didn't think they would need all of that. Mayor Bryce Lynn proposed that they cut that budget by $1,000 and put it in another department. The council decided to put it in animal control, boosting that total to $4,000, and cutting the First Responders to $3,000.

Squire said that there should be sufficient funds to cover the cost of new garbage cans. Michelle Dalton, secretary, said that she was waiting on the order for new cans and that they should be here soon.

Squire reported on Class "B" Road funds. He said that the $60,300 from the current year estimate was not the full budget. He said that they added $14,000 out of last year's Class "C" road fund. The total budget was $74,000 and that the city is over budget, but will make it up some way. He said that they had done some sidewalks and some street lights with money out of this fund. Harry Newell said he couldn't think of any streets that needed immediate repair except 3rd East.

Squire said he only showed $36,100 in revenue in Class "C" Road monies this year, going back to January. He said he thought there was another payment coming in.

The council added more money to parks and recreation due to the skate park and memorial park. It jumped from $17,300 to $30,000.
