Mary Shiozaki
1921~2012

Mary Okubo Shiozaki, age 91, passed away quietly on May 13, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 10, 1921 to Kiyotaro and Riyo Enomoto Okubo. Mary had 4 brothers and 3 sisters and grew up on the family farm and graduated from Granite High School. On March 2, 1947, she married Jungi Jay Shiozaki in Salt Lake City, Utah (marriage later solemnized in the Manti Temple). He passed away on May 11, 2009. The couple lived in Provo, Beaver, Price, American Fork and Manti before retiring in Nephi in 1982. They had a family farm in Mills, where they energetically worked together. They both enjoyed hard work. Mary was always a supportive wife. She was a wonderful, loving mother to her 5 children, Elizabeth Wade (Tucson, Arizona), Tom (Gerie, Vernal), Susan West (Ralph, Preston, Idaho), Nanci Shino (Salt Lake), and Judy Anderson (Ken, Wales), and was very proud of her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She lovingly encouraged them and always taught by example.
Mary was an expert seamstress and sewed all of the clothes for her daughters when they were young, made cute warm parkas for all of the grandchildren, and many beautiful quilts. Her quilting extended to benefit the Boy Scouts of her ward and their fund raising projects. She was an excellent cook and avid gardener and helped maintain their huge beautiful yard. Every year, Mary and her husband generously shared their produce and flowers with neighbors and friends and created a tradition of delivering treats during the holidays. They enjoyed fishing and family vacations. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, Mary served as an ordinance worker in the Manti Temple, Relief Society secretary and devoted visiting teacher. Her volunteer service included helping at the local senior center and Heritage Hills where she was branch Relief Society president.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, George, Harry and Floyd Okubo. She is survived by her sisters, Ida Kato (Carlsbad, California), Kim Kumagai (Kamas, Utah), Stella Sako (Jim, Kennewick, Washington), brother, Harold (West Jordan), children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be a viewing at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi, from 10:30-11:30 am on Thursday, May 17, 2012. Following, at Mary's request, there will be a graveside service at noon at the Vine Bluff Cemetery. The family wants to thank all of the good friends and neighbors for the love they have shown their parents over the years. They especially want to thank Kay and Amberlee and the wonderful friends at Victorian House for their devoted care and love, and Dr. Taylor and the staff at the Central Valley Medical Center.
