Juab County will collect its own Transit Room Tax.
On Monday, the Juab County Commission passed an
ordinance giving notice that the county would, henceforth,
collect the TRT.
The ordinance replaces and repeals the ordinance which
had been in place.
"A letter needs to be sent to the Utah State Tax
Commission informing them of the decision," said Jared
Eldridge, county attorney.
Glenn Greenhalgh, county economic development
director, will help the county with the collection of the
TRT. In addition, Greenhalgh will sit on the Utah
Association of Counties' board.
UAC will help the county with the necessary forms to
be used in the collection.
The document required commissioners to vote either
"aye" or "nay" on the ordinance and to so note on the
ordinance.
In addition, Wm. Boyd Howarth, commission chairman,
singed the document which will now be sent to the tax
commission along with the letter commissioners are to
include.
"Technically, the law states that the ordinance does
not become effective until 15 days from the time of
publication," said Eldridge.
A summary of the ordinance will be published in the
local newspaper.
Utah State Tax Records indicated that, in Juab, in
1998, $1,770,058 was collected; in 1999 there was $1,907,632
collected; in 2000, $1,978,171 collected; and in 2001-2002,
$1,913,190 was collected.
The data was extracted from the Tax Commission's Sales
Tax System information.
Transient Room, Tourism and Resort Taxes in Utah come
from the Transient Room Tax which comes from room rents,
cultural and convention facilities tax, taxes on
restaurants, hotels and rental cars.

A copy of the ordinance will be kept on file at the
Juab County Clerk's office for those who would like to
review it.
"We will also give notice to UAC (the Utah Association
of Counties) that we will be collecting our own TRT," said
Wm. Boyd Howarth, commission chair.
