A tentative budget for Nephi City was reviewed by the
city council in keeping with state statute.
"State statute requires that a tentative budget for
the new fiscal year be presented to the council at the first
council meeting in May," said Randy McKnight, city
administrator.
The budget, for that reason, was very preliminary and
most of the details were still to be discussed prior to
approval in June, he said.
On June 16, at 6 p.m., the council will hold the
needed public hearing prior to adoption of the final budget.
Then, on June 17, at 8:30 p.m. During council meeting, the
city will adopt the final budget.
"The budget public hearing and final budget adoption
must be held to be in keeping with state statute," said
McKnight.
The preliminary budget must also be an agenda item, by
state law.
It is proposed that the funds for the year will
consist of $2,491,466 in the general fund, $2,450,00 in the
capital projects fund, $1,012,000 in the water and sewer
fund, $3,060,000 in the electric fund, $323,000 in the solid
waste fund, $2,200,000 in the natural gas fund, and $32,000
in the Nephi Industrial Development Agency for a total
appropriations budget from all funds of $11,568,466.
In addition, total administrative budget is $501,401;
the justice court, $35,415; non-departmental, $153,500;
planning and zoning, $66,000; police department, $624,250;
building inspection, $33,000; streets department, $300,500;
airport, $6,800; city engineer, $2,200; parks department,
$129,000; golf course, $144,950; organized recreation,
$88,850; library, $78,500; cemeteries, $67,450; and
contributions to the capital fund of $21,000 for a total of
$2,491,466.
"Remember that this budget is very tentative," said
McKnight. "As the council discusses the budget it will
change."
