Nephi City Municipal Swimming Pool rates were raised
slightly for the coming season.
City council members agreed to the increase at
Tuesday's council meeting.
"The swimming pool has been recovering about 40
percent of its operating costs through the fees that are
charged," said Chad Brough, mayor. "Fees were last set in
1998."
"It is apparent that, even by increasing the fees, we
will not get a full recovery of the expenses at the
pool."
Council members agreed that not all programs offered
by the city were of only monetary consideration. Having a
pool was good for the residents of the community.
"Last year Jill Mace, swimming instructor, gave some
kids a chance at training for and being on a competitive
swimming team," said Randy McKnight, city administrator.
"The kids traveled to swim meets and enjoyed
participating."
The program will continue again this year. The fee for
participating will be $60 per swim team member. "The fee
includes a season pass," said McKnight.
Council members approved charging $1.50 per session
for children and $2.50 per session for adults.
A ticket book for children will cost $25 for 20
tickets. Season passes, by month of purchase, will cost $45,
$30, or $15.
It will cost $60 per hour to rent the pool for up to
100 people. "The pool will be available to rent from 8 p.m.
until 10 p.m.," said McKnight. If patrons wish to rent the
pool earlier in the day or later in the evening, they must
make special advance arrangements.
Lessons will cost $25 for 10 30-minute lessons and $30
for 10 45 minute lessons.
The increase in rates is in line with what is being
charged at most pools in surrounding areas and is less
expensive than most," said McKnight.
