A Nephi City Community Sports Park and Recreation Center is being seriously pursued and a survey will be taken to allow public input. John Bradley, Nephi City Recreation Department Director, released conceptual plans of a recreation park to be developed in south Nephi. "A public survey will be implemented in May to allow citizens the ability to share their vision of how a community sports park and recreation center could be developed," said Bradley. "The project is to be completed in phases," he said. "The Nephi City Council unanimously agreed to develop a future community sports park and recreation center at their city owned property on the south side of Nephi City." The project, which does not yet have dedicated funding, will need to be completed in phases, he said. Juab County, as a whole, has experienced unprecedented growth which appears to be the new norm, said Bradley. "Aging infrastructure and lack of sufficient recreation spaces have led to the need for more sport fields and additional gym space," said Bradley. Additionally, he said, the Juab School District growth has required renovation of the partnered Junior High West Campus/Nephi Recreation Center to revert back to full time Juab School District use. "This has Nephi City officials looking for a long term home for the recreation department programs and staff which provides recreation programs for all the residents of Juab County," said Bradley. He said that Nephi City Council has studied this topic for several years and reviewed multiple recommendations for both location and facilities. "Ultimately, the ability to develop a location for all the community recreation needs at one location as well as allow for future growth is a priority," he said. The proposed recreation property is located across the street from Red Cliffs Elementary School on the west side of Main Street. The proposed hotel is further south from the elementary on the east of Main Street. The frontage property, directly in front of the 60 acres owned by the city, is a separate project and is being proposed for a commercial development. "The commitment of Nephi City Council to such a vision is a direct reflection of their desire to provide a high quality of life for all Juab County residents," said Bradley.
