Michael (Mike) Jay Peterson
1943 ~ 2018

Michael (Mike) Jay Peterson, 74, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at his home Monday, April 9, 2018.

He was born August 4, 1943 in Glendale, CA to Jay Peterson and Elizabeth (Betty) Meyers Peterson.

Mike grew up in Spanish Fork, UT and graduated from Spanish Fork HS where he attended seminary. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At 19 he was called to and served a mission in Florida. He loved his Savior Jesus Christ and held many positions in the church.

He was drafted into the Army and graciously served his country for two years during the Vietnam war 1966-1968. He was a proud veteran who loved his country.

He married Maxine Thompson in 1965. They moved to Las Vegas, NV and had two children. Mike worked for Anderson Dairy for many years until he fulfilled his dream of becoming a business owner and bought his own Home Milk delivery service. They divorced in 1987, and he moved back to Utah where he bought and managed a convenience store in Salt Lake City.

He married his Love and Life partner Wendy Terkelsen June 16, 1989 and settled in Mona, UT where they call home with their beloved dogs Monique and Bruno.

Mike loved sports and was a lifelong Dodgers and 49ers fan. He enjoyed watching any sport on T.V.: baseball, football, golf and he especially liked BYU. He played football, softball, and golf in his younger years. He was on many bowling leagues with his family and at the Showboat Casino in Las Vegas. He had a high average; he was a lefty with an amazing hook. He enjoyed old western movies and John Wayne was his absolute favorite. He liked doing word searches and especially liked doing crossword puzzles with his son Evan.

It wasn’t always easy but he lived a full life. He knew he wasn’t perfect and always strived to be a better person. He wholeheartedly loved his family. He was proud of his children and their accomplishments. He was especially proud of his granddaughter, Brittany, and his great-grandchildren, Reese and Crew. They were the light in his eyes, and loved to talk about them.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Wilford Terkelsen, brother-in-law Wilford Paul Terkelsen, and sister-in-law Elizabeth Terkelson.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife Wendy Petersen, son Evan Peterson, daughter Deanna Hendry, granddaughter Brittany (Zach) Jacobs, great-granddaughter Reese, great-grandson Cre, brother Dennis (Gloria) Peterson, sister Erma Jean (Bob) Scherwitz, sister Janet (Kim) Pierce, many nieces and nephews, special family friend Kathleen Johnson, and his two best friends, his babies Monique and Bruno.

We would like to give a special thank you to the first responders from Mt. Pleasant, the Nephi ambulance and the skilled medical team at Nephi hospital for all of their efforts and pure kindness. We would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude to our friends and employers who have shown their kindness and love during this time.

Funeral service were held at the 3rd Ward chapel, 65 W 800 S Mona, Utah Monday, April 16, 2018. Interment will be at the Spring City Cemetery.


Vernon Monroe
1933 ~ 2018

Vernon Merlin Monroe, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed from this life surround by his family on the morning of Saturday, April 7, 2018.

Vernon was born in Scipio, Utah on November 25, 1933 to Merlin and Loraine Monroe, calling Scipio his home throughout his life. Vernon met Evelyn Sims of Marianna, Florida while serving in the US Navy. Vernon and Evelyn were married August 14, 1959 in the Manti Temple. They are the proud parents of eight children: Michelle Monroe (Jeff Jex) Provo, UT, Mike Monroe (Amber) Scipio, UT, Terry Monroe (Cathy) Scipio, UT, Ryan Monroe (Trina) St. George, UT, SueAnn Larson (Guy) Payson, UT, Julie Brown (Paul) Salem, UT, Kevin Monroe (Staci) Scipio, Utah, Kyle Monroe (Jamie) Fillmore, UT. Proud grandparents of twenty grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Vernon loved having all the children and grandchildren at his home visiting and having fun. Many wonderful evenings were spent visiting with friends and family on his deck.

Vernon loved his life-long work as a farmer and rancher. His honesty and hard work are an example to all who knew him. He was drafted and spent two years serving our country onboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings. He was active in his community serving on the town council for 12 years. He was a life-long promotor of the beef industry and was always seeking ways to improve his cattle. He served many years on the Scipio Irrigation Company and Juab Lake Irrigation Company Boards. Vernon spent his life’s work in Millard and Juab counties doing his farm work, taking care of the livestock, making many friends and enjoying life.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Scipio, Utah at the Scipio LDS Ward Building. Interment will be at the Scipio Cemetery. In llieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Online condolence at rasmussenmortuary.com


Mark Lisle Broadhead
1999-2018

Our dear, beloved Mark Lisle Broadhead, 18, passed away

peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018.

Born July 19, 1999 to Maria Montoya Cooper and Lyle Robert Broadhead in Salt Lake City, UT. Mark was a loving, devoted son, brother, friend and grandson. He graduated from Corner Canyon High School in 2017, loved the Utah Jazz, the Miami Dolphins, art and music.

Mark had a warm, engaging personality and took an active interest in everyone he met, being the first to ask about , their day, make them feel included and lift their spirits with his wonderful sense of humor. Mark will always be remembered as a kind, handsome young man with giant heart.

Mark is survived by his adoring mother, Maria (Neil); siblings, Gwendolyn, Emma, Thomas, Edelia. Grandparents Larry and Kathleen Broadhead, Nephi and Sherie Montoya of Draper.

Mark was preceded in death by his loving father, Lyle Robert Broadhead. Funeral and burial at the Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, West Jordan, Utah.


Robert W. Beckstead

Dr. Robert W. Beckstead passed away on April 3, 2018 at the age of 86. Dr. Beckstead was a native of Nephi, Utah, the son of Dr. Francis Hamilton Beckstead and Edith Belliston Beckstead. He graduated from Juab High School. He attended the University of Utah where he earned both a B.S. in economics and a Masters of Business Administration. He then attended the University of Illinois where he received a PH.D. in economics. He also obtained diplomas from the Pennsylvania State University Executive Management Program and The Industrial College of the Armed Forces Strategic Logistic Program. Later he was granted an honorary diploma from La Escuela de Defensa Nacional of Argentina.

Dr. Beckstead has served on the economics faculties of Tarkio College, New Mexico State University, The Industrial College of the Armed Forces, The George Washington University, The University of Southern California, The University of Denver, and the Capitol College. He was awarded the J. Carlton Ward, Jr. Distinguished Professorship while serving as a professor of economics at The Industrial College of the Armed Forces, (ICAF), National Defense University in Washington, DC. He was a visiting scholar at The National Defense University of Korea and the Korean Institute of Defense Analyses, both in Seoul, Korea, and at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. His teaching, research and writing career have focused on national economic issues, national defense strategy, international economic policy, and managerial economic decision making. He has distinguished himself as a scholar, author, lecturer and world traveler. At the time of his retirement from ICAF in July 1998, he was the senior faculty member.

In addition, Dr. Beckstead has served as a consultant to the Office of Research Analyses of the Department of the Air Force, the SAFEGUARD System Evaluation Agency of the Department of Army, the Energy Policy Office of the Department of Defense, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), and the War Gaming Division of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He married Doris A. Shaw, also a native of Nephi, Utah in 1955. They have four daughters: Karen A. (Bruce) Bennett, Charlotte K. (John) Ferguson, Sandra L. (Larry) Hepworth and Linda E. (David) Spencer; thirteen grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one on the way. They have been residents of Fairfax, VA since 1973.

After his retirement from college teaching in 1998, Bob devoted most of his time to the duties of a patriarch in the Oakton Virginia Stake and as a sealer in the Washington, DC temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Grave side services were held at 4pm Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery. Services were held in Virginia Monday, April 9, 2018.
