J. Barres Jenkins
1919 ~ 2015
Joseph Barres Jenkins passed away 7 Apr 2015 at age 95. He was born in Nephi UT 22 Sep 1919 to Charles Rupert Jenkins and Tola Wright Jenkins. After graduating from Juab High School and serving in the US Army (European Theater) during WWII, he married Norma Christiansen 15 Aug 1945. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple 15 Aug 1946. When Norma passed away in 2003, he married Mary Jane Anderson Simons.
Barres was a mechanic, businessman, owner of a John Deere dealership (Jenkins Sales & Service) for many years. He served as a city councilman, mayor, ward bishop, member of a high council and stake presidency, temple ordinance worker, American Legion volunteer and long-time Boy Scout leader. He attended two national scout jamborees and received the Silver Beaver Recognition. In June 2014 he went to Washington, DC with his son on the first Utah Honor Flight for war veterans. He was a seasoned sheepherder, farmer, horseback rider, woodworker and storyteller. He was a resourceful, hardworking individual who prized his pioneer roots, his American independence, his sons and grandsons.
Survived by his wife Mary, son Joseph Charles (Ellen), daughter-in-law Patty (Ron) Bates, daughter Claudia (Roger) Allen, 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; also, sister Merci Taylor. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, son James Richard, foster daughter Lorraine, siblings Loskiel Jenkins, Arta Brough and Marba Stuart. Thank you so much to family, friends, neighbors, community for your kindness and care.
Funeral services will be Monday 13 Apr 2015, 11 am at Nephi LDS Stake Center (351 N 100 W). Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6-8 pm at Anderson Funeral Home (94 W 300 N) and at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Vine Bluff Cemetery. www.andersonfh1866.com
VaLoy Keetch Menlove
August 21, 1929 – April 8, 2015
VaLoy was born to A. Martell Keetch and Beula Kofford on August 21, 1929 in Orem, Utah. She passed away peacefully from age- related complications on April 8, 2015 in Nephi, Utah. VaLoy was the oldest of six siblings. She married Ralph William Menlove on June 18, 1948 in the Manti Temple.
They are the proud parents of six children. VaLoy's life was irrevocably changed by Ralph's accident in November 1971. She was a master candy maker and shared this talent with many people over the years. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, and loved gathering her family around her. VaLoy was a valued employee at various jobs. She was active in the LDS church and served in many callings.
She is survived by her six children; Neal (Terry), Sheri (Devon) Vickers, Martell (Ronda), JoDene Arakelian, Nathan (Teresa), Carolee (Don) Child; 28 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings; Merla (Kay) Bolling and Alfred "Jim" (Kitsy) Keetch; in-laws Martha Keetch, Jane Keetch, Max Menlove, Elizabeth Menlove, LouDene Peery, and Bob and Lois Menlove. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; grandson, Richard Menlove; great-granddaughter, Lucy Menlove; brothers, Dee Keetch and Boyd Keetch, and her sister, Clea Rasmussen.
Funeral services were held Monday April 13, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 7171 South 2700 West, West Jordan Utah.
