An accident on Nephi's South Main Street sent a driver of a pick-up truck to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The accident, between a semi tractor-trailer unit and a pick-up truck hauling a travel trailer occurred at Pilot Flying J, 1597 South Main, on Monday at approximately 4 p.m.
Flying J is located near the I-15 Exit 222 and that exit is just south of the station.
"A semi truck and trailer was turning left from Flying J to go south," said Nephi City Police Lt. John Shepherd, the investigating officer. "The driver of the semi said he thought the road was clear and pulled onto the street."
Another vehicle, a Dodge pickup truck pulling a 38-foot camping trailer, was in the far right lane of the roadway.
The pickup truck was going about 45 mph, which is the speed limit, when the semi struck the pickup truck, said Shepherd.
"The driver of the pick-up truck pulling the camp trailer, Darrell Paxton, 48-year-old male, had to be extricated from the vehicle," said Shepherd. "He was injured in the accident and transported to CVMC (Central Valley Medical Center) by the ambulance (East Juab)."
Paxton lives in Spanish Fork.
There were three other passengers in the pickup truck but none of the other occupants had to be transported to the hospital.
"The driver of the semi-truck which caused the accident was Terry Allen Dutton, a 66-year-old male from Idaho," said Shepherd. "He caused the accident and was issued a citation for failure to yield the right-of-way."
He was not injured.
Shepherd said he was en route to Juab County Jail with a prisoner just minutes after the accident happened and, therefore, was first on the scene.
A deputy from the jail came to get his prisoner so he could perform his duties at the accident site.
"We did have a lot of help at the scene," he said.
