It is expected that the Little Sahara Sand Dunes in
West Juab County will once again be the home away from home
for a host of visitors during the Easter holiday.
Law enforcement is ready for the influx, said Juab
County Sheriff Alden Orme.
"If someone is planning to visit the Sand Dunes for
Easter so they can break the law, there is a good chance
they will be apprehended," said Orme.
He said his message to all planning to visit any of
the recreation sites in the county was that they should come
here planning to have a good time with their families
knowing that county law enforcement officials were on duty
in full force.
As usual, he said, several different law enforcement
agencies would be on hand to help enforce the law and to
provide quick medical response in case of emergencies.
He said there would be 30 officers from the Department
of Public Safety such as UHP troopers and alcohol
enforcement officers who would be on duty in Juab County for
the weekend.
In addition, Bureau of Land Management law enforcement
officers, Utah Parks and Recreation law enforcement
officers, and Utah Department of Motor Vehicle Safety
officers have agreed to work in the county for the duration
of the 2005 holiday.
The sheriff's department will also have deputies on
duty and The Juab County Search and Rescue officers will
also serve at the Sand Dunes and will make patrols of the
various other recreation sites in the county that are
popular with visitors.
"The West Juab Ambulance staff will also be there,"
said Orme.
The Emergency Medical Technicians provide an emergency
treatment facility at the visitor's center and are available
for quick response to medical emergencies on the sand.
Though the usual 20,000 plus visitors are expected to
visit either the Sand Dunes, the West Desert, or one of the
other attractions in the county, law enforcement is ready,
said Orme.
"We should have 50 officers in total at work in the
county for the Easter holiday," he said.
Visitors, depending on the weather, the snow melt and
the temperature during Easter weekend, often visit Yuba
State Park, Burraston Pond, Mona Reservoir, Salt Creek
Canyon, Trout Creek, Levan Canyon, Topaz Mountain, Cherry
Creek, or the West Desert Bird Refuge in addition to Little
Sahara Sand Dunes.
This year, with cooler temperatures, the largest
influx will likely be the West Desert areas. Recreation at
the White Sand Dunes, Little Sahara Recreation Area, remains
a very popular site with sand fans during Easter, attracting
tourists and visitors to western Juab.
"We would like our visitors to know they should be
prepared to help us make this a safe holiday in Juab
County," said Orme.
If recreationists want to be free of problems, he
said, visitors can make certain they are driving registered
vehicles, they have the property safety flags for sand
vehicles, and that they obey off-road-vehicle
requirements.
They should also remember that glass containers cannot
be taken onto the sand.
