Elva M. Ockey
1916~2013
Our dear, sweet mother, Elva Mikkelsen Ockey, passed away on January 7, 2013, surrounded by her family after a short illness. She was 96 years old, having been born to Marianne Christine Jensen and Mikkel Anton Mikkelsen on July 15, 1916, in Fountain Green, Utah. She was the eleventh child of twelve children born to that union. She married Jack Emerson Ockey on May 27, 1938, in Fountain Green, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti temple.
Elva worked full-time for twenty-two years at the Moroni Feed Company, retiring in 1981. She was active in church callings and loved to tie quilts and appliqué and paint on dish towels as gifts for her family. She loved to read. Elva was very creative and many of her crafts won prizes at the county fair. For a time, she enjoyed collecting Beanie Babies.
She is survived by her three children, Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Ockey (Gary) Evans, Linda Faye Ockey, and Jack Russell (Suzan) Ockey; one sister, Verla Mikkelsen Marx; ten grandchildren; and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 11:00 am in the Nephi First Ward chapel at 222 South 100 East, Nephi, Utah, with a viewing prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery. Anderson Funeral Home, 801-580-3366. |
