It looked like a railroad job but it really wasn't.
Chad Winn is the new Juab County Commission Chairman and was nominated for the job by Val Jones, who has served as commission chairman for several years.
Jones, who took office in 2005, was selected by fellow commissioners to be commission chairman in 2007.
Listed under the topic of "other business" on the commission agenda was the item: "Consider commission chairman for 2012."
"I nominate Chad P. Winn to serve as commission chairman in 2012," said Val Jones, who has served the past four years as chairman.
Just as quickly as Jones made the nomination, Rick Carlton, commissioner, seconded the nomination and Winn was selected by acclamation.
"I will be chair of the Six County Executive Board next year, in 2012," said Jones. "I did not think I wanted do both jobs because it would make me busier than I wanted to be."
Through local intergovernmental agreements, the Six County Association of Governments (SCAOG) was organized in 1969 to provide services available through state and federal programs to the citizens of Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier and Wayne counties.
The SCAOG administers an annual budget of over $3 million dollars and maintains a staff of more than 80 full and part time employees.
General oversight for programs administered by the SCAOG is provided by the General Board comprising all commissioners and one appointed mayor from each county. The General Board meets quarterly or as required.
"The Executive Board of one appointed commissioner and appointed mayor from each county meets monthly, or as required, to provide program specific guidance and direction as necessary, and the chair of the executive board is rotated on a yearly basis among the member counties," said Jones. "It is back to Juab County this year."
The Board provides direction directly through the SCAOG's Executive Director and program directors. SCAOG departments consist of Executive and Administrative, Community Services, Aging and Volunteer Services, and Housing Services.
"I am looking forward to being the chair of the Six County Executive Board," said Jones. "Chad Winn will do an excellent job of serving as chair of the commission."
"This isn't quite the railroad job it looks like it is," said Jones. "I had talked to Commissioner Winn earlier."
He then, jokingly said, that if Winn did not like the job it would not matter because he would still be selected by the majority of the commission with Jones and Carlton voting in favor of Winn doing the job.
