Kudos to those who made certain that freeway exit and entrance lights were installed an the Mona freeway interchange.
"Driving home in the blizzard last night, what a blessing those off-ramp freeway lights are," said Gordon Anderson, council member. "What a difference they make."
The council, for several years, has wanted the lights to be added to their interchange and finally, last fall, everything came together and the lights were added.
Some items of business in Mona were addressed by council members on a short agenda that had only two items of business and an executive session.
Mike Stringer, council member, said he would like to see an air compressor installed at the new maintenance building which was completed this past summer.
"What requirements would we need to meet?" asked Stringer.
Gordon Anderson, council member, said he thought it would be a good idea to have an air compressor but thought that Stringer should check with the city fire department to see what sort of requirements they might have.
The council could then agree to have an air compressor at the building if the requirements would not forbid it.
"Would you also check on the regulations for fuel storage tanks?" asked Bill Mills, mayor.
It would be a good idea to have fuel available for city trucks. Now that Mona's service station is closed, fueling the city vehicles means that they must be taken to Nephi. That increases operations costs.
Mills also suggested that the street signs which are planned for city streets not be installed at present.
"It would be a good idea to wait until after the sewer collections lines are complete before anymore signs are place in the city because a lot of them could be disturbed or destroyed during the construction," said Mills.
Frank Riding, council member, said he would like to see the city invest in some Christmas lights for the city park.
"I would like to price some lights because I would like to put a little color into the park this year," said Riding.
Mills said he thought that was a good idea but would need to be done quickly because the season was already here.
"I think we need to just buy a few lights this year and then add to it over the next few years," said Anderson.
Stringer said he would also like to see the city purchase a trailer and thought it would be an added convenience.
"A truck with a utility bed would be a good idea," he said.
Mills said that the truck would need to be added to the coming year budget.
"Go ahead and price some good trailers," said Mills.
Mills proposed hiring a back-up driver to operate the city snowplow when the other operator was too busy with his regular job to get the work done.
"I think we need to check and see what our insurance will cover before we make a decision," said Anderson.
