LOUISE P. LOVELL
Dec 5, 1922 ~ Dec 18, 2005
Louise Peterson Lovell, age 83, beloved wife, mother
and grandmother, passed away December 18, 2005 in the
Millard County Care Center in Delta, Utah after a courageous
four and one half year battle with cancer. She was born
December 5, 1922 in Blanding, Utah, the 4th of 12 children
born to Lorenzo Stowell and Ida Mae Turley Peterson. She
grew up and was educated in Iosepa, Utah, and Blanding where
she fell in love with the Blue Mountain area, Lamanite
people and Southeastern Utah's "red dirt". After high school
graduation she went to LaSal, Utah to work. This is where
she met LaForge Lovell. Following their courtship they were
married in the Manti, LDS Temple, August 1, 1941. LaForge
and Louise lived in LaSal, Utah after their marriage where
LaForge taught school for 2 more years. They lived in Salt
Lake City, Provo and Portland before returning home to
Leamington. Five children were born to Louise and LaForge
between 1943 and 1957. They were all educated and raised in
the Leamington area. Mom was always an advocate of the
Lamanite people of the Southwest and always had one or more
foster children in her home.
Mom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities including
Relief Society President, Primary President, Ward Librarian,
Ward Magazine representative and various other positions.
She loved 4-H and served as a leader for many, many years.
She worked for the USU Extension Service and worked as a
census worker. She loved the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers
and was active until her death. After Dad's retirement, Mom
and Dad served as workers in Deseret Industries for more
than 10 years.
Mom loved having her grandchildren come to visit her
and was known by all of them as their "Candy Grandma." She
hid hundreds of Easter eggs annually for her grandchildren
to hunt and find on Easter. Christmas was her favorite
holiday and she always showered her family and especially
her grandchildren with all kinds of gifts. She was troubled
that her situation was prohibiting her from doing her normal
giving. Mom was very talented with crafts, sewing and
quilting. She finished at least three quilts for each of her
grandchildren.
Louise is survived by her husband: LaForge; sons: Phil
(Marjorie) and Sylvan( JoRae) all of Leamington; Kay (Jane)
of Milpitas, California; Norman (Barbara) of Payson, Utah;
daughters: Mayna Burnside (Randy) of Provo, Utah and Lena
Lovell (Art) of Lynndyl, Utah. She also has three living
sisters: Betty Christensen and Doris Memmott of Payson, Utah
and Delois Lamb of Caldwell, Idaho. Her sister Eda
Christensen was nine hours ahead of her going home, which
may have prompted her departure. She is leaving behind 30
grandchildren (two are currently serving missions) and 38
great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December
22, 2005 in the Leamington LDS Ward building in Leamington,
Utah at 11 am. Friends may call between 9:30-10:45 am prior
to the service. Interment in the Leamington Town
Cemetery.
The family thanks all the kind people at the Millard
County Care Center who helped with her care.
