Nephi City will celebrate the Second Annual “Illuminate the Night” event on November 28.

Jeanne Worwood Lewis, chairman of the event, attended Nephi City Council to explain the plans she and her committee had made for the night of the celebration.

“This has been the year of years, but some holiday cheer is on its way,” said Lewis.

The kick-off for the 2020 Christmas season will include fun for the whole family.

The night will begin on November 28, 2020 at the Nephi City Pioneer Park located at 600 North Main.

“We can still keep the parade but rather than it driving along Main Street it will be parked on Main and the people will drive around it. We call it a reverse parade,” she said.

The parade with start with entries being parked in front of the park and then along Main, north and south, from that center point.

Those who would like to enter the reverse parade should contact Lewis or Craig Oswald.

“We will have food trucks,” said Lewis.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. when Santa arrives at “Illuminate the Night” at the city park.

At 5:05 p.m. Santa will be located at the Small Bowery and a treat, which will consist of free doughnuts and Haven House Cocoa, will be served.

“The free donuts and hot chocolate will be available while supplies last,” said Lewis.

At 5:20 p.m., Elsa, Anna and Olaf will arrive.

5:40 p.m. there will be music entertainment by “Lanterns at Midnight.”

“The Grinch Look-a-like Contest will be held at 6 p.m.,” said Lewis. “It is open to all age groups and was a fun event last year. It is advertised on the city Facebook page and on the city site under ‘Stay Informed.’”

Following the contest, at 6:10 p.m. the music entertainment by “Lanterns at Midnight” will continue.

The lighting of the Christmas Tree will take place at 6:30 p.m.

From 6:30 to 8 p.m., people can drive-by the floats and can participate in online voting.

She said that plans were to film the parade and post it on Facebook for those who could not attend in person.

“The winners will be announced at 8:15 p.m.,” said Lewis, “and prizes will be awarded.”

She said that Larry Allred will have two teams of his horses available that evening and there will be hayrides and also a kid’s train

“We will sanitize the rides as we go,” said Lewis. “We ask people to wear masks and social distance.”

Lewis said that Ali Painter, who programs the city website, would post further information there. The site is up and ready to go with needed information.
