A Michigan man was killed early Saturday morning near Nephi.

Tyler J. Hinken, 20, from Burr Oak, Michigan, died instantly when the car he was driving crashed into the back of a semi trailer.

“On Saturday, October 14, at 6:27 a.m. a crash was reported on I-15 northbound at mile marker 214,” said a Utah Highway Patrol spokesperson.

A 2012 Chevrolet Camaro rear ended a 2017 Kenworth semi truck and trailer in the right lane.

“The Camaro impacted the semi trailer and became lodged under the rear of the trailer,” said the spokesperson.

The impact with the semi trailer killed the driver of the Camaro, identified as Hinken.

The driver of the semi was not injured and there were no other occupants in either of the vehicles.

“Excessive speed by the driver of the Camaro is being investigated as a possible contributor to the crash,” said the UHP spokesperson.

The closest town to the crash location is Nephi.
