Steven Lynn Kay
1939-2011

Steven Lynn Kay, 72, passed away suddenly September 6, 2011 at home after a short illness.
He was born June 8, 1939, in Nephi, Utah, and was raised in Mona. He was the son of Lynn W. and Almina Johnson Kay. Steve had three older sisters and was the oldest of 3 brothers. Marilyn Park (Cleston, deceased), Ludene Howell, deceased (Jack), Joann Christensen (John), Grant Kay (Melinda), and Clark Kay (Nadine).
Steve graduated from Juab High School. He married JoAnn Jackson. They were later divorced. They were the parents of Rodney Steven Kay (Marcie). He then married Pat B. Stanworth.
They are the parents of Ryan Lynn Kay. They became a happy loving family which included Pat's daughter Shari (Dave McDaniel). They made their home in Provo, Utah. Pat and Steve have 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Steve's work career began as a kid from down on the farm. He was taught by his father how to work. He later became a plumber and attended school at Utah Trade Tech. Before long his entrepreneurial spirit blossomed and he went into business with Steve Pola. The company became K&P Plumbing (the partnership was dissolved many years ago). The name has remained to this day. He had an excellent reputation in the construction community. In later years he returned to his roots by establishing a farming and ranching operation in Mona.
He enjoyed playing golf with his wife and friends. In earlier years he enjoyed traveling, boating and fishing and owned and flew a private airplane. One windy landing convinced him to give up flying.
At times Steve's personality came across as tough but the real Steve was caring and helpful. He assisted many in getting started in life and gave a hand up to many as they needed help. He was loved by his family, employees and business associates and will be sorely missed.
A viewing was held Friday, September 9, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the Sunberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State Street, Orem, Utah. Family and friends gathered Saturday, September 10, at 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North Nephi, Utah, to celebrate Steven's life. Interment was in the Mona Cemetery.
