ALMA MADSEN
1915~2005
Our dearly beloved son, husband, father,
grandfather, brother, and friend, Alma Madsen, passed away
peacefully at home on September 21, 2005.
Alma was born October 4, 1915, to Hans Jensen
Lauritz and Anna Hansine Rasmussen Madsen in Fountain Green,
Utah. He attended school through the eighth grade,
then began working to help his family.
He married Virginia Cowan on December 29, 1941, in
Las Vegas, Nevada. He served in the Army Air Corps
during WWII.
Alma worked as a farmer and sheepherder for many
years; he retired from Union Pacific Railroad. He
enjoyed planting and harvesting a large garden.
Potatoes were his specialty.
Alma was a special person, kind, dependable,
generous and easy-going. Although quiet and shy, he
was a mighty oak of strength to his family. He enjoyed
just being at home, working around the house and yard, and
driving to Sanpete County to visit his brothers and
sisters. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints and was active in the gospel of Jesus
Christ.
Survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia;
children, Karl Cowan (Pleasant Grove), Stephen Alma
(Moroni), and Barbara Jean (Salt Lake City); 8
grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Also
survived by one sister, Ruth Knight (West Jordan).
Preceded in death by two sons, Lauritz Thomas and Wendell
Roy; grandson, Christopher Sean Madsen; his parents; seven
sisters, Kirstine, Mary, Marie, Ingeborg (Bobbie), Sarah,
Edith, and Edna; and three brothers, William, Parley, and
Harold.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September
26, 2005, at 12:00 noon, at the Nephi 2nd Ward at 100 East
222 South,, under the direction of Anderson Funeral
Home. A viewing will be held at the church from
10:00 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be
at the Nephi City Cemetery, 400 East and 400 North.
Heartfelt thanks are given to Central Valley Home
Health and Hospice and to Lee Hansen for special care.

Calvin Ross
1936-2005
Calvin Dana Ross, age 69, died Wednesday, September 21,
2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born February 5, 1936 in
Johnson City, New York. He was married to the love of his
life, Karen Clarice McCain in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Calvin grew up in Johnson City/Endicott, New York. He
lived in California for about 10 years, then in Nephi, Utah,
working in a coal mine. He then moved to Elko, Nevada,
working for Newmont Gold Mine as an electrician. In 2001, he
retired to Overton, Nevada. He enjoyed fishing, hunting,
boating and gardening. He adored his grandchildren and his
girls. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father,
grandfather, son and brother.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Overton; three
daughters: Heather (Dennis) Owens of Carlin, NV; Dawn
(David) Delaney of Elko, NV; Elizabeth (Spencer) Pengelly of
Spring Creek, NV; eleven grandchildren; his mother, Bertha
Ross of Nephi, UT; two brothers and three sisters: Sandy
(Larry) Thorderson of PA; Rexford (Betty) of NY; Gary
(Donna) of GA; Judy (Paul) McPherson of UT and Sherrie (Jim)
Moore of AZ. He was preceded in death by his father, one
brother and one sister.
Memorial services were held Monday, September 26, 2005 at
2 p.m. at the Overton LDS Chapel. Arrangements were under
the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.
James Kendall, Jr.
1954-2005
James Clair Kendall, Jr., age 51, died Monday, September
19, 2005 at his home in Orem, Utah. He was born March 25,
1954 in Nephi, Utah, to James Clair Kendall and LaRae
Worthington.
He graduated from Juab High School in 1972. He attended
the University of Utah and Utah Valley State College. He
married Marlene Baker in Nephi on September 23, 1977. He
enjoyed wood working as a career and as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Orem; mother,
LaRae Kendall, Nephi; sisters, AnnaRae McAllister, Orem; and
Ruth Kendall, SLC. He was preceded in death by his father,
Clair Kendall.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 22,
2005 in Orem. Interment was at Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi,
Utah.
