Following a public hearing held on Tuesday, the Nephi
City Council agreed to zone property as it was annexed and
according to the current use.
"That way," said Randy McKnight, city administrator,
"the council would not have to have another public
hearing."
Mayor Chad Brough polled members for a verbal vote
which was unanimous in favor of the annexation.
The council agreed to annex the property as it is
currently being used and in agreement with the adjacent
property which is also zoned commercial.
The 180-acre annexation was petitioned by the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who own the property
located immediately south of the current city boundary. The
property is near the Juab County Public Safety Building or
Jail.
It also borders the old U.S. Highway 91.
A gravel pit is located on the property and is being
leased to a private enterprise.
"A power extension has been paid for which will allows
them the necessary electricity to operate," said
McKnight.
Culinary water is not being requested though it might
become a desire later on if the leasing company wants to
build an office and/or install toilets and drinking water
fountains.
"They are currently obtaining their process water from
a well," said McKnight.
If culinary water is ever wanted, the culinary line
would need to be built on a loop-line extending from Motel 6
to make the system efficient.
