Michael Flickinger
1965 ~ 2021
Michael John Flickinger, 56, of Nephi died unexpectedly on August 18, 2021 during a noninvasive heart procedure. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born to Edwin and Arlene Flickinger on February 15, 1965 in Bow Island, Alberta, Canada. He was the fourth of five children. He grew up in the town of Cardston, Alberta. His parents owned a restaurant in Cardston (Cobblestone Manor) that was run by his whole family. Michael graduated from Cardston High School in 1983. He then went on to serve an LDS mission in Las Vegas, NV. While on his mission, he met April Flowers who would later become his dear wife. Mike and April were married on May 19, 1989 and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Las Vegas Temple on June 30, 1990. Mike and April lived in the small town of Coutts, Alberta. He became a customs broker and worked at H & H Smith. They lived in Canada for three and a half years and then moved to Nephi, Utah so April could be closer to her family. He worked hard to provide for his family and later found happiness and success in operating his own business, Utah Landscaping Rock. Mike was a natural inventor. He was constantly creating and tinkering. He wanted to understand how everything worked. There was nothing that his mind couldn’t find a solution for. When a problem arose, he taught himself how to fix it. His dad taught him electrical work. He later used those skills to work on the Cardston, Alberta Temple. He also learned plumbing and mechanical work. He was tech savvy and taught himself web design. His current calling in the church was the technology specialist. One of his favorite ways to express love was through cooking. You could always find him in the kitchen whipping up something amazing. You’ve never met someone with a bigger heart than Mike. He was the person that everyone in his life would turn to. If you needed him, he would drop whatever he was doing to come and help, never passing up an opportunity to serve. Through his Christlike love, he would attract people from all walks of life that were in need. He believed in giving second and third and sometimes even fourth chances. He had faith in the goodness of people and saw it in them when no one else could. His love was felt by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife April and his four children: Joshua (Danielle), Luke (Bethany), Brooke, Seth and his two grandchildren Adaline, Charles, and every other person whose life he touched. Gary Hickman
1942 ~ 2021
Gary Ray Hickman from Nephi, Utah, passed away peacefully on August 21st at the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old. Gary was born on June 17, 1942 in Alhambra, California, but grew up in Benjamin Utah. He was the second of six children born to Helen and Mont Hickman. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School where he played on the school’s all star baseball team. After graduation he served in the United States Army and married Diana Kaye LeBaron, from Genola, Utah. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Early on in their marriage he worked for the RC Cola Company. During his tenure he was honored as employee of the year and TV personality, Art Linkletter, presented him with his award. He fancied himself a singer and tap dancer – both of which he did poorly. There were times when he would regale his children and grandchildren with a song and dance to Eddie Arnold’s, 1955 hit, ‘The Cattle Call’. As he got older, he traded in his tap shoes and ascended the throne as the undisputed king of the ‘Dad Joke,’ something we are all going to miss very much. He loved doing anything outdoors. He was an award winning little league coach and he loved to garden. Gary could fix anything with twine, a teaspoon and tape. As an avid outdoorsman, he taught his children the love of camping, hunting and fishing. Favorite family vacations were fishing trips to Strawberry and Scofield reservoirs. He was known to family and friends as the man who would give you the shirt off his back – which he did on many occasions. He also had an incredible work ethic. He was a beloved employee and supervisor at every company he ever worked for. But, when it came to family gatherings you stayed out of his kitchen – that was his domain. You always left the Hickman household a little heavier than when you arrived. He is survived by his wife Diana Kaye Hickman and his seven children: Randy, Kyle, Tyler, Chad, Jared, Damon and Ericka Hickman. He was also a devoted grandfather of 16 children and great-grandfather to 11 children. The family is holding a graveside service at Vine Bluff Cemetery on Thursday, August 26th at 11:00 am with a viewing at Anderson Funeral Home (94 West 300 North) from 10:00-10:45 am. Friends and family are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers the family would like you to donate to your favorite charity.
