Two men were arrested in Mona as suspects in the death of a female.

David Manuel Mestas, 26, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Richard Anthony Sanchez, 26, of Rapid City, South Dakota, were both booked into the Juab County Jail on charges related to the death of the female victim.

“On Sunday morning, August 22, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Juab County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at the Park and Pump gas station in Mona,” said Brent Pulver, Juab County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy.

Deputies, with the assistance of the Nephi City Police Department, arrived and investigated the disturbance.

“During the investigation, it was alleged there was a deceased female inside a vehicle who had been shot,” said Pulver.

Deputies continued the investigation under the direction of Sheriff Doug Anderson and located a deceased female inside the vehicle.

The two suspects were arrested due to their suspected involvement in the victim’s death.

“The death is being investigated as a homicide and with the assistance of Utah County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene investigators, evidence has been collected,” said Pulver.

The victim has been transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office to obtain a positive identification of the female and an official cause of death.

Juab County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Nephi Police Department, the Santaquin Police Department, the Utah Highway Patrol, the State Special Bureau of Investigations and the Utah County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and response to the investigation, he said.

“The investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time,” said Pulver.
