  • NadineBlackett is the Grand Marshal of the Mammoth Parade

Nadine Jones Blackett, a lifelong resident of Nephi, will lead the 2018 Ute Stampede Mammoth Parade as the Grand Marshal.

Nadine was born August 15, 1928 in Nephi, the youngest daughter of Len and Birdie Jones. Nadine loves to share stories of her early years and recall many adventures with her siblings LaPriel, Douglas, Harold and Ronald Jones. Following Nadine’s graduation from Juab High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Evan H. Blackett. Evan managed the Premium Oil Station for 41 years and took great pride in raising cattle and running their farm. Evan passed away in 1992.

Nadine has worked at many Nephi businesses through the years starting out at the “Uwana Drive Inn”as a waitress. She worked many years for Bud Haymond at Nephi Drug Store. Nadine worked at the IGA store, Brinkerhoff’s Department Store, US Forest Service Nephi Office, and at Central Valley Medical Center as a cook. Currently, at nearly 90 years old, she works daily at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneer Museum. Nadine represents what Nephi is all about: commitment to faith, family and friends, a strong work ethic and service mindedness.

Through the years Nadine has provided faithful service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Relief Society Visiting Teacher, Relief Society Secretary and currently as the Nephi 2nd Ward Librarian.

Nadine enjoys serving. For many years the highlight of her summer was to take tickets at the Ute Stampede Rodeo and assisting at the Juab County Fair where needed. Nadine delivered home baked banana bread to many, provided lunches for her husband, sons, grandchildren and others when they worked on the family farm and was always stopping by to visit people. Nadine has always shown love and concern for others. Nadine was selected as “Woman of the Year” by the Nephi City Council. She was also a member of the “Delphic Civic Club”.

Nadine has hand-knitted and crocheted many award winning afghans for family and friends.

Nadine and Evan have three children: Marlow (Marge) Blackett-Nephi, Jeanette (Steve) Middaugh-Reno, Nevada, Morris (Lisa) Blackett-Nephi. Nadine is the loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren: Justin Blackett, Jeremy Blackett, Mandee Allan, Tina Coombs, Emberlee Wortman, Ashley Olsen, Megan Weber, Brady Blackett, Marci Rasch and Shane Blackett. Nadine adores her 25 great-grandchildren. She has one brother still living, Ronald L. Jones, and numerous nieces, nephews and family members who she loves dearly. Nadine cherishes her good memories of growing up in Nephi and raising her children here, she feels blessed because of the people she has rubbed shoulders with living in Juab County, and the love and support shown to her and the happy life she enjoys here in such an amazing community.
