The fairground replacement bleachers, on the west side of the rodeo arena, were built in time for the 75th rodeo celebration in 2009 and this year, 2016, marks the 82nd Ute Stampede.
The annual rodeo is scheduled for July 14, 15 and 16 and, just in time to present the commissioners with tickets for the first night, the Stampede committee was on hand to pay an annual debt.
On Monday, Wade B. Garrett and Chris Memmott, representing the Ute Stampede Committee, presented Clinton Painter, Juab County Commission Chairman with a $10,000 check.
"We are here, primarily, to present you with the annual check for $10,000 as per the CIB agreement," said Memmott.
Juab County, Juab County Fair and the Ute Stampede all agreed to accept the terms of a Community Impact Board contract.
"The three entities agreed to split the no-interest loan money repayment," said Painter.
The money came to the county to demolish and rebuild the failing section of the grandstand.
"The county also donated $100,000 in-kind money to tear down the existing section," said Mike Seely, county administrator.
The terms of the contract were that the funds would be repaid in 30 years.
Some of the CIB money used in the construction came in the form of a grant that did not need to be repaid.
The money used to build the new bleachers amounted to approximately $1 million.
In addition to a new section of bleachers, new restrooms were also built.
The new bleachers were needed because of safety since the footings on the old bleachers were gone.
Back in 2005, a group of citizens representing some of the festivals held in Nephi along with the Nephi City Chamber of Commerce President, wanted the commission to replace the old wooden structure on the west side of the arena.
Memmott said that he was attending Juab County commission meeting for the primary purpose of presenting the annual check to the commission as the Stampede's portion of the payment.
Painter said that the Ute Stampede Committee had been faithful in making the annual payment each June.
"We plan to use the sponsorship program again this year," said Memmott. "We hope that it will be a benefit to the county. It provides great advertising."
"What will the amount be?" asked Byron Woodland, commissioner.
Memmott said that it would cost $1,000 for each participant.
The advertising banners on the chutes will move one space each year so that everyone has an equal chance at a particular space that might be favored.
"We will rotate each to the next chute," said Memmott.
