Scott Jacobsen
1950-2009
William Scott Jacobsen left this earth on June 9, 2009 at Brigham City Community Hospital due to major medical complications. He was born on August 30, 1950, in Nephi, Utah, to A.V. and Decima Larsen Jacobsen. He was the youngest of three boys. Scott attended Juab High School, where he met Julie Pickering, and they were later married on April 9, 1971. During their 32 years of marriage, they had two children.
When not at home, Scott was usually found on the road where he owned and operated his own trucking business for the majority of his life. Scott was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, four-wheeling, horses, rodeos, watching ball games, and spending time with his family. Scott was especially fond of his two children and four grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to visit or talk about them with anyone who would listen.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald “Jake,” and sister-in-law, Teresa Jacobsen. Scott is survived by his son, Jade (Michelle) Jacobsen and daughter, Jenya (Preston) Jones, along with the loves of his life, his four grandchildren: Kylie, Mason, Ali, and Avery. Scott is also survived by his brother James, his Uncle Morgan and Aunt Pauline Larsen, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of funeral services and to respect Scott's wishes, the family will hold a private service to celebrate their fond memories of him. Condolences may be sent to the family at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W. 300 N., Nephi, UT 84648.
Shirley Bailey
1945-2009
Shirley Leech Bailey, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 11, 2009, of heart complications at the age of 64. She was born in Moab, Utah, on May 19, 1945 to Dwight Leech and Elsie Mae Knight, the second of seven children.
She graduated from Grand County High School and then Brigham Young University with a degree in Homemaking Education. She married Richard (Dick) Bailey on August 12, 1966. Shirley and Dick moved to Oregon in 1970, first settling in Beaverton, then later in West Linn. As a member of the LDS church she served faithfully in the Relief Society and Primary organization as well as serving as the pianist for various auxiliaries for many years. She had a great love of music and it was always a part of her life. She also enjoyed her affiliation with the Lake Oswego Family History Center serving as its director for a number of years.
All the members of her immediate and extended family know that they were important to her. She is survived by her husband, Dick Bailey, and her children, Scott (Becky) Bailey, and Heather (David) Nielson. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Dwight and Elsie, baby sister, Mary Elizabeth and brother Don. She has 9 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Reed Leech of LaJara, CO, and Rex Leech of Kaysville UT, and sisters Linda Leech and Carolyn Stiles both of Moab, UT.
Funeral services were held on June 16, 2009 in West Linn, Oregon, and she will be interred in Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, UT, on June 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. The family expresses thanks to Threadgill’s Memorial Services and Anderson Funeral Home for handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perpetual Education Fund or the Temple Patrons Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Carol Rae Ballard
1956-2009
Carol Rae Ballard passed away June 8, 2009 in Provo, UT.
She was born December 20, 1956 in Nephi, Utah, to Kenneth Boss and Lucille Tolley. She married Joel Hansen January 21, 1972. Together they had four children. They were later divorced. She married Bill Ballard June 28, 1997.
Carol found success in many different jobs. She worked as a seamstress for Catalina and Utah American. She was a manager at Flying J, All For One, and Best Western. She was currently employed at Young Living. Carol found the most fulfillment in selling Aloette Cosmetics and helping women feel beautiful and confident. Her greatest success was the friendships she made. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, watching old movies, making home improvements, and hosting family get-togethers. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family, especially her beautiful grandchildren.
She is survived by her mother, Lucille; husband, Bill; daughters, Melissa (Mike) Bastian; Jennifer (Travis) Worwood; a son, JayLynn (Vickie) Hansen; sisters, Mary Ivory, Patty Boss, Linda Butler, and Walline Broadhead; brothers, Craig and Clay Boss; step-children, Tanya Shortt and Waylon Ballard; uncle, Roy Tolley; aunts, Norma Cressler and Bonnie Quinn; 20 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her son, Steven; grandson, Tanner; father, step father, and grandparents.
Carol will always be remembered for her tireless work ethic, boundless energy, gift of gab, and her desire to take care of those she loved.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009 in the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 N. 400 E. Interment in the Goshen Cemetery.
Kim D. Baird
1952-2009
Kim Deray Baird, age 57, of Nephi, Utah, passed away on 7 June 2009 in Provo, Utah. He was diagnosed 10 weeks ago with glioblastoma, a brain tumor for which there is no cure. Kim was born March 2, 1952 in Murray, Utah, to Mark J. Baird and Ruth Melissa Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Draper, the youngest of six children. Kim excelled in all things mechanical and was a Sterling Scholar at Jordan High School. Kim spent his life in the field of technology, working, volunteering and venturing out on his own. He married Doris F. King on March 7, 1979.
He is survived by his wife and siblings: Joseph Mark (Carolyn) Baird, Karl S. (Jeannine) Baird, Claudine (Noal) Greenwood, Glenda (Bruce) Coltrin, Paul (Pilar) Baird.
Kim will be buried at the gravesite of his father in the Draper City Cemetery, 12450 South 900 East. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 11:00 A.M. All family and friends who wish to attend are welcome.
